FoKL Point Highlights from KLA Conference

What a great conference experience for all who were able to attend KLA/KASL Conference in Wichita!  The sessions, the speakers and informal conversations were brought together by the planners and volunteer members of the associations involved.  FoKL thanks everyone who took part. Coming soon — the Kansas Library Association conference!  Read the current issue of FoKL Point and you’ll know why you should register now!

Don’t miss the 4:20 p.m. session on Wednesday at KLA.  The Library Leadership Group’s message of community spirit will inspire you.  This group of teens formed five years ago and is more active than ever, supporting their community and their library. Hamilton County Librarian, Amy Brucker will share what this group has taught her about mentoring a teenage Friends group.  And, you can meet some of these outstanding, energetic, civic-minded teens!

2017 Kansas Library Association Conference – Registration Open

Friends of Kansas Libraries and Kansas Library Trustee Association remind everyone to send your Trustees and Friends to the Kansas Library Association Conference Wednesday, October 25th, 2017, at the Hyatt Hotel in Wichita.

The featured speaker at the FoKL Luncheon will be Kansas author and humorist Ken Robert Baugh.

You can now register online for the one-day Friends and Trustees day for $60 with your meal included. OR register for the full conference for $100 with one meal event at no charge.

Follow the instructions to register a Friend or Trustee.  You can pay by credit card or ask for an invoice, but do register now. Early Bird rates are good through Sunday, September 24.

Sharing successful programs at conference is what librarians do — Friends and Trustees can do it, too!

Friends and Trustees Day at Kansas Library Conference

An inspiring speaker, lunch prepared by a chef, door prizes! What more could a conference offer?

Friends of Kansas Libraries and Kansas Library Trustee Association remind everyone to send library board members and Friends to the Kansas Library Conference Wednesday, October 19th, 2016, at the Hyatt Hotel in Wichita.

The pre-conference (8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) Wednesday featuring Joan Frye Williams is “The Fully Engaged Trustee.”  Joan is known as a futurist who will challenge her audience with new ideas. Joan will also be the featured speaker for the Friends and Trustees luncheon.  Don’t miss it!

You can now register online for the one-day Friends and Trustees day for $50 on the KLA Conference website, 1 meal included.

Summer 2015 FoKL Point Newsletter

The Summer 2015 issue of FoKL Point is ready to read.  This issue has both an online version and a printer-friendly one.

Have you made your plans to attend this year’s Kansas Library Association conference?  It will be held in conjunction with the Missouri Library Association at the Kansas City Convention Center.  Be sure to attend September 30 through October 2 to meet your friends, share ideas, and learn what other libraries have found successful. Register by August 18 for the “early bird” rate; regular rates through September 28.

Friends/Trustees events are scheduled for Wednesday, September 30.  The day begins with a 11:30 lunch featuring Gayle Harper, 2014 winner of Forward Reviews’ Nonfiction INDIEFAB award for “Roadtrip with a Raindrop.”  Gayle will also host a 2:00 pm session that will inspire your creative spirit.  Join us for an excellent day at KLA!

Does your library or Friends group belong to FoKL?  Our membership year now follows the calendar year.  Make a New Year’s resolution to support Kansas libraries and Join FoKL.

 

The featured speaker at the Friends/Trustees luncheon at KLA was Linda Regan of the Children’s Advocacy Center in Springfield, Missouri.  Response to her address was enthusiastic!  Read Linda’s message describing how to recruit and develop the best board for your organization or library.

The new edition of  FoKL Point is here!   Read news of the KLA conference, the Duane Johnson Library Leadership Award winners, and National Friends of Libraries Week.  This Fall 2014 edition also includes news from member groups that are working to enhance community library programs and services.

The annual membership meeting of Friends of Kansas Libraries is held during the Annual Kansas Library Association Conference.  The 2014 Conference will be held October 29 through 31, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 400 West Waterman, Wichita, Kansas.
